Plan a mindful stretching session in the quiet outdoor space at The Women’s Table sculpture by Maya Lin, best known as the creator of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. Located along Rose Walk in front of the Sterling Memorial Library at the heart of Yale University’s campus, Lin’s flat, oval granite table constantly emits the gentle sound of gurgling water from its fountain. The spreading water highlights a spiral of numbers marking the history of the presence of women at Yale through 1993, when the sculpture was installed. As water spills over the edge of The Women’s Table, it fills a blue pool below. Set amidst pedestrian pathways and small green spaces, this meaningful sculpture creates a peaceful ambiance for a deep stretch.

For a meditative experience, visit Yale’s Beinecke Plaza, where Isamu Noguchi’s 1963 sculpture The Garden (Pyramid, Sun, and Cube) is on sunken display adjacent to the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library’s subterranean reading room. Framing the scene, the modernistic Beinecke building features glowing, warm windows made of the same Vermont marble as Noguchi’s smooth, still sculpture. This calming outdoor space at the center of Yale University can inspire viewers to meditate as if they were in a Zen Garden.

Connect with nature and take a reflective stroll through the Yale Marsh Botanical Garden. This extensive, well-curated plant collection from around the world offers support for Yale researchers, faculty and students, and creates a memorable experience for visitors, who are welcome to enjoy self-guided walking tours. The eight-acre site includes six greenhouses and is open year ‘round to experience the seasons. The botanical garden features naturalistic beds and wildflower plantings in summer, bulb displays and early flowering shrubs and trees in spring; woody plants with surprising fall color; and a winter oasis of greenhouses where tropical fruit ripens on their trees. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. The greenhouses are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gardens’ natural areas are open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
