New Haven, CT – Yale University Properties is hosting an anniversary celebration in honor of Ashley’s Ice Cream at 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 25 at 280 York Street at The Shops at Yale in downtown New Haven.  At the festivities, Yale University Properties will welcome guests including New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, Alder Jeanette Morrison, local merchants and all members of the community.

Ashley’s opened their first shop in downtown New Haven in 1979.  Since then, their business has flourished, attracting customers from all over Connecticut and earning them dozens of awards over the years.  This month they earned a place in Forbes list of “12 Over-The-Top Sundaes You’ll Want To Try This Summer Across The Country.”  Ashley’s is one of the oldest ice cream shops in the area and currently has five locations.  Their company name came from their passion for frisbeeing and was the name of the talented frisbee catching dog “Ashley Whippet”.

Co-owners and Greater New Haven residents Joe Ametrano and Brian Anderson feel lucky to have served New Haven residents for four decades, including some famous Yale alumni and students, such as several past presidents, Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti, and many other actors including James Franco, Jordana Brewster and David Duchovny.

Co-owner, Joe Ametrano, said “We began our business in New Haven, which was the best decision we ever made.  The success of our New Haven location has allowed us to steadily expand into neighboring markets and has helped to build the company we have today.”

Many of Ashley’s ingredients, such as strawberries, blueberries and peaches, come from local farms and they never use artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

To celebrate the milestone Ashley’s Ice Cream is offering $1.00 ice cream cones on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 1:00-4:00pm.  Ashley’s Ice Cream, located at 280 York Street, is open 11:00am-11:00pm, Monday-Saturday and 12:00pm-11:00pm on Sunday.

“We are delighted to join Ashley’s Ice Cream’s in celebrating this wonderful milestone,” said Lauren Zucker, Yale University Associate Vice President for New Haven Affairs and University Properties.  “Yale University’s community investment program supports independently-owned businesses, bringing jobs to New Haven residents and expanding the city’s tax base.”
