Bookstore opening celebrated in downtown New Haven today

Grey Matter Books is opening at 264 York St. at The Shops at Yale in downtown.

This is the second location for Grey Matter Books. Owner and operator Sam Burton opened his first location in 2009 in Hadley, Mass. after launching his business online years earlier, according to a release.

“We are delighted to support entrepreneurs in opening up stores in New Haven,” Lauren Zucker, Yale University associate vice president for New Haven Affairs and University Properties siad in the release. “Yale University’s community investment program supports independently-owned businesses, bringing jobs to New Haven residents and expanding the city’s tax base.”

“Grey Matter Books buys and sells new and used books. Burton is planning to bring in about 15,000 used books into his new space and will be hiring several employees to help him run the store.”
